1/6/2023 0 Comments 1990 firebird![]() ![]() I sincerely hope that I am fortunate to find another one, like mine at a fair price one day. I am disgusted by my ignorance and stupidity that led to my beautiful pride and joys demise. This was a beautiful, strong running, and great handling car. ![]() Until it was totaled and the unibody or a frame was bent. This car took alot of undeserved abuse, and still ran like a top. I also had to replace the tires and brakes multiple times, (due to power braking and smoking the rubber off the tires). Its a wonder it didnt rip the transmission out of it. The only mechanical issues I had were, I had to replace the transmission mount, (due to an idiot downshifting it into low 1 at 70mph). Was driven by any jerk that would pay attention to me, or use me for it.like it was some kind of drag strip hot rod. I have to say this car was very mechanically strong. In 2 and a half years, the car had 72,000+ miles put on it. (Sarcasm) The car had 88 miles on it when I first got it. They ran it hard, smoked the tires, finally it was totaled, by one of these fine members of society. I let them drive it, and they ragged it out. Unfortunately after my grandfather passed away, I made some very bad choices and met a couple of worthless loser, user men, who destroyed my baby. Until you figure out the knack of getting the tops back in, you have to be very careful putting them back in or you will scratch the top of car up. They were very heavy, since they were glass instead of plastic. She had plenty of power and get up and go. The steering was tight, but that helped to keep her steady and keep up speed in curves. ![]() Even though they had slightly changed the body style in 91 and 92, this car was boss! Mine was identical to the one in the photo, except mine had T tops. My grandfather bought it for me, 5 months before he died. This car was and still is a special part of my heart. I was a lucky little girl, to get one of these brand new, when I was 16. Maintenance- its an american car so parts are inexpensive with also with used parts in abundance in junk yards, I only performed general maintenance including tune-up, fluid changes, and brakes on the vehicle to restore it to an daily driver.įun Factor: Its an old pony car so its fun to drive it would be more fun with an larger engine. Handling- it handles pretty well for its age but of its age it needs a complete rebuild from bushings, ball joints, and shocks.īuild Quality: as far as pony cars are concerned the gm 3rd gen f-body chassis were manufactured pretty well but with vehicle becoming 20 years old the suspension needs to be redone so it squeaks and rattles like any car its age my only problem is the radiator/cooling system design the engine will overheat if any of the bottom plastic air dams are missing or broken.Īppearance: its a very good looking vehicle when compared to other vehicles from the 90's, the vehicle I own is a t-top firebird and its a bandit 2 edition so it has a trans-am body kit which makes the car way better looking than the base model my only problem with the car is there is no glove box to store insurance papers and such.Ĭost of Ownership: Gas mileage- it has pretty good 90's V8 gas mileage it sick that this car's 5.0L 8 cylinder gets better mileage than my 4.0L 6 cylinder jeep engine. Performance: Acceleration- for a vehicle of its age it accelerates pretty well with general maintenance I think it performs pretty close to when it was new.īraking- the braking needs work but that is because of its age and weight it could use an upgrade. Despite the deterioration that I mentioned, it still looks very good and I get a lot of compliments on the car. From A Beater To A Eater - Work In Progress. #1990 firebird driverThe car would be a great candidate for restoration, but also works well as an everyday driver or a weekend fun car. It hasn't broken through the paint yet, but it's a matter of time. The worst thing is that there is some rust starting to bubble under the paint at the rear wheel wells. Some of the rubber around the t-tops isn't in great shape, and in a hard rain, there will be some leakage into the car. The wraparound spoiler is deteriorating, which is pretty common for these cars. There may be some hard plastics and people often rip on the f-body interiors from this era, but it's held up quite nicely. Other than that, the interior is quite good. The cloth on the headliner is also sagging a bit and needs tightened up. ![]() As in common with these cars, there's a little warping in the vinyl/plastic that forms the base of the center console, and the armrests on the doors are a bit warped as well. I drive it regularly, putting about 12K per year on it. It is inspected for PA through April, 2010. I've owned it for a little more than six years now it had 57K miles on it when I purchased it. I need to sell this car because I've ordered a new Camaro. ![]()
